Kolkata Knight Riders won by 10 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 12tj April. Also, it was 100th IPL win for the Kolkata based franchise.
Nitish Rana was the highlight of the match as he scored 80 runs on just 56 balls. Rana smashed 9 fours and 4 sixes in his inning and also bagged the man of the match award.
Kolkata scored 187 for 6 and managed to defend it.
KKR vs SRH: Nitish Rana’s dominance
Sent to bat first, Kolkata got a flying start as they scored 50 runs without any loss in the powerplay. The trick to send Nitish Rana to open the batting did wonders for the team. The other opener Shubman gill lost his wicket after scoring 15 runs.
Rahul Tripathi came to bat at no. 3, he scored 53 runs on 29 balls hitting 2 sixes and 5 fours before getting prey to T Natrajan.
The cricketing world has very expectation with Dr Russel, but he failed to make an impact like last year. Coming at no. 6, the wicket-keeper batsman provided the much-needed finish for KKR. He smashed 1 six and 2 fours in his 22 runs 9 ball cameo.
They finished at 187 for 6 with Nitish Rana being highest scorer.
KKR vs SRH: Hyderbad reply
In reply, SRH played a card and sent Wriddhiman Saha to open the batting with theri captain David Warner.
But this move didn’t work in the favour of Hyderbad as the wicketkeeper-batsman was bowled after hitting a six on Shakib’s bowl.
Soon after that, Warner departed at his personal score 3. This left the team crambling at 10-2.
However, Jonny Bairstow and Manish pandey build a partnership and kept the scoreboard rolling. In the meantime, Bairstow completed his fifty with a six before getting out on 55.
When Bairstow got out, the required run rate shooted up till 14 and Pandey failed to keep it down. As a result, Hyderabad was short of 10 runs at the end of the 20th over.
The move to send Vijay Shankar before power hitter samad didn’t work for SRH.
Abdul Samad smashed 2 towering sixes off pat Cummins in the penultimate over. This encouraged netizens to question why Vijay Shankar was sent before Abdul Samad.
Maybe, if Samad would have got more overs to play, the result could have been different. What’s your views on this, let me know in the comment below.
