Shikhar Dhawan - CriketOn
IPL 2021

Is IPL 2021, the Last Chance for Shikhar Dhawan to reestablish himself in Indian Team?

Last year, UAE conditions proved to be very favourable for the Shikhar Dhawan as he smashed 618 with a staggering average of 44.14. Also, he was the second-leading scorer in the tournament, even got success in keeping his strike rate well above 140. He also scored back to back centuries and became the first player in the history of IPL to do so.

Besides, the best season of his career didn’t help him to cement his place in the T20s, as the left-hander was dropped after given chance in the first T20 against England this year.

However, he did come back very strong in the ODI series against england scoring 98 and 67 in the first and third match respectively.

Problem of Plenty, KL Rahul or Shikhar Dhawan

In the Fifth T20, India dropped KL Rahul because of his poor form. Kohli took the responsibility of opening the game with the veteran opener Rohit Sharma which proved to be very fruitful for the team as the duo added 94 runs for the first wicket. This partnership eventually helped India in a comfortable win.

Already there was plenty of options before the skipper and management for the opening combination, and the skippers move increased this problem of plenty even further.

Now it will be very interesting to see how India fills its opening slot for the World T20 this year. IPL 2021 may also prove to be one of the biggest criteria for the selection of the openers.

Shikhar Dhawan will have to perform exceptionally well in the tournament if he wants to play for india in the T20 world Cup. He will continue to play for Delhi Captials as an opener as he did last year.

Akash Chopra urged Shikhar dhawan to play Fierlessly in IPL

Akash Chopra, a well-known commentator urged Dhawan to play fearlessly in the 11th edition of IPL and repeat the heroics of last year. The former player even feels that India was little harsh on the left-hander after the first T20. He said Sikhi needs to prove his point and slam his place in the playing XI.

“I would love to see an absolutely fearless Shikhar Dhawan. He has a point to prove because he must feel slightly hard done by. After what he did in the IPL, he was picked for white-ball cricket. He played in Australia and then played only a single game, the first game against England at Ahmedabad, and then was benched for the remaining games”, said Chopra while speaking on Star Sports.
