Mumbai Indians dominated the last edition of IPL and won their 5th title, becoming the second team in the history of tournament to won two consecutive trophies.
In fact, MI have been bossing the Indian Tournament for a couple of years now. We have seen over the years, how other teams have struggled to find the perfect balance between the players, while Mumbai has done it quite easily.
Let’s understand what mumbai indians does which contributes to their huge success that other teams fail to do.
#1. Rohit Sharma backs his teammates
Let me take you to the first few games of last season, you will recall that South African Opener Quinton De Cock was failing miserably. People were criticizing Rohit for not playing Lynn instead of Decock.
Moreover, Rohit Sharma showed trust and persisted with Quini. The southPaw did’nt let down his captain as he smashed 4 Fifites in the later half of the tournament.
This quality of Rohit makes him a stand out captain. Even we can find this calibre in former Indian captain MS Dhoni where he sticks with his playing XI and probably that explains the success of the Indian team under his captaincy.
#2. Everyone in Team Knows their Role Well
Unlike Other teams, There is no single star player in MI, on whom the whole team depends. All players have been given a role by the management and they understand those roles and execute themselves.
They have Rohit and De cock to open, Surya Kumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan to play in the middle as well as pollard and Hardik to finish hard. Even On bad days, when top order collapses they have the likes of Surya Kumar and Krunal Pandya.
In the bowling department, Boult has been doing wonders with the new ball leaving Burmah to bowl in the death overs. It is the most settled team participating in the upcoming season of IPL.
#3. Mumbai Indians Invests in uncapped Indian players
We have seen how mumbai Indians makes star player out of nothing. Hardik, Krunal and Jasprit Bumrah are the epitomy of this.
MI placed a bid of 11 Lakh on Hardik Pandya in 2015 and he became such a big asset for the team that they are retaining him by paying 11 Crores. Jasprit Bumrah was bought by Mumbai in the 6th Edition of IPL in 2013 and the rest is history.
In the upcoming season, Mumbai Indians is looking more solid and balanced with the addition of Hardik ‘the bowler’. It will very interesting to see how teams will tackle MI.
